Run, Jump, Throw (Session 3) - Tim

Run, Jump, Throw (Session 3)

Today was the 3rd session of Run, Jump, Throw

Today’s lesson was throwing Shotput and Discus. In Shotput we learnt how to throw far, to throw far we had to have the shot put near your neck, to have more power when releasing. We only take away our shotput from our neck if we are releasing into the distance. In shot put, they don’t usually hold it in their hand, they hold it on their fingers. It is called Dirty Fingers, Dirty Neck and Clean Palm. We twist our body looking straight at what is behind us. We have our Chin, Knee and Toes align with each other, or chin - knee - toe all in a row. Having our elbows high will help make our throw have more power. Low to high - watch it fly. When we go low it helps us have a further throw when you are releasing. Watch it fly it watching what you have released. It is very important you have the dirty fingers, dirty neck and clean palm, because if we are holding it in our hand, it won’t be released further. Next up is Discus. We used a specific type of discus material which is rubber, to prevent us from injuries, from the metal. In discus, you don’t grip, because it will be harder to roll it on the ground, and will land flat. If you don’t grip it, then when you turn it over it should fall down, if it doesn’t that means you are gripping it and holding it in a wrong position. When throwing a discus, you have to stand sideways on a line, with your discus in your right hand or the hand you are comfortable with. Swing up the discus and clap so it doesn’t fall, because you are not gripping it. Bring it back, and with the shotput, have your Chin, Knee and Toes aligned with each other. Low to high watch it fly, fling it fast. When you have released, you already have to be in a ‘T’ Shape, because if you don’t it won’t fly straight, instead it will go to the side. Always remember to have your chin, knee and toes aligned to have a perfect throw when it is flying.
